Established in 1993, the Chicago Health and Aging Project (CHAP) is "a longitudinal population study of common chronic health problems of older persons, especially of risk factors for incident Alzheimer's disease, in a biracial neighborhood of the south side of Chicago" (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14646025/). The study has three unusual design features: (1) "[confining] clinical evaluation for Alzheimer's disease ... to a stratified random sample of all participants;" (2) "combining ... successive independent multiple samples;" and (3) "entering successive age cohorts of community residents into the study as they attain 65 years of age" (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14646025/).
Since its original interview cycle, CHAP has increased its study population by enrolling "newly aged participants; that is, community residents that had turned 65 years since the beginning of the study," and "residents from a neighboring community area ... to achieve a more even racial balance in its study population" (https://www.maelstrom-research.org/mica/individual-study/chap).
